Witness Testimony
"First off... I have slept out of doors over two hundred nights a year here in Utah as a fire fighter / forester. I have worked graveyard shifts, and I grew up in LA.... nothing I've ever seen even comes close to this.I was in Capitol Reef NP for a painting and photographing trip. I had jsut finished my drive and started to really get into the sights / landscape. Large red-rock cliffs and mud hills.... rivulets, gullys and ravienes twisted by water and wind create very dramatic images. I was parked at a spot called the fluted wall. There is a turn out there on the south of the road. i was shooting the cliff wall to the north and turned south to return to my car. I first noticed a car pulled off the road about 100 yards to the west, then my attention was sucked over to the ravine that lies about 25 yards south of the turnout. my mind went threw the exercises of catorgorizing... first was weather ballon, second was party ballons, ... the hubcap did not stick... the camera came up to shoot and it was gone... what I saw was about 30-36 inches tall and a sort of an hour glass with post and all wraped in a shiney metal. the top and bottom were 12-16 inches with either 4 or six "points or sides, there were no sharp or acute edges, all soft and round with the tips of the angle (top and bottom) protuding boulbusly about an inch. The efges as the y were dimineshed to a smools circular shape at the waist. the middle or waist of the object was round about 9 or ten inches diameter. it was slowly spinning clockwise) the seamless skin was shiney/ reflective white / bronze or highly polished brass, or maybe closer to white gold in color. I heard no sound above the wind. it was blowing in about the same direction as the vector of the object and another thought was that it was possibly some shopping bags in the wind... after I shot the camera, the object was gone and I was sprinting to the edge of the ravine (I was a CA state sprinting champ in high school) Nothing. I ran down the ravine cutting off / over an S turn. I ran in the direction of the wind and the vector the object was moving. I followed the ravine untill it dead ended into a culvert under the road. I scanned the landcape down wind for any debris or ballons or anything... I backtracked up the ravine and the part I cut off and up canyon half a mile. there was no nothing but rocks. no scorch, no scuffs or footprints scince the last rain, no phosoresance no sound no smell, no garbage, no plastic / mylar or broken glass, no significant amount of gypsum crystals for a large reflectoin and the car I noticed pulled over was gone so I could not ask them if they saw it. I was about 20 - 25 yards from the object as it rose out of the 30 foot deep ravine right at the edge or lip. I observed it for a durration of 3/4 - 2 full seconds before it decended from sight. I was at the lip of the ravine within 5 seconds but probably 3 and the object would have to had traved at least 60 yards to hide in the S turn of the ravine, or 120 yards 180 degrees against its last observed vector to retreat up the canyon. I made another thourough search the next day with no results. My hasty camera shot was high and I missed the object. i definatly felt excited, intrigued, and baffeled. I told several workers in the park and no one seemed to disbeleive me... I definately felt a yearning to see it again and I will revist the ravine many times I think before I die..."
