SIGHTING: FUNCHAL, MADEIRA (PORTUGAL)

Witness Testimony

"Tuesday 7/1/2020 10:50 am funchal, madeira plain white disc flying object seen over funchal cruise liner port not far from porto santo line ferry terminal. one tenth cloud cover at an estimated 20-30k feet. ground temperature 18c. object moved slightly out to sea and was higher than cloud cover. appeared to rise and disappear from view. visibility at 10.50 am on 7.1.2020 was at least 10 miles. observer was on coast at sea level near the cruise liner port of funchal, madeira island, portugal. first thoughts were it was a radio-sonde (weather balloon?). however it rose rapidly vertically as it disappeared into blue sky view in a minute. no sound, no vapour trail, no change of colour. this area is not a flight path or regular flight route. also at say 35k feet it would have been the diameter of a boeing 737 nose to tail so weather balloon is unlikely. nothing was observed to fall into the sea either (thinking was if it was a weather balloon it may have burst to a small size and then dropped into the sea off funchal harbour.) conclusion: no explanation as to what the object was.
