Witness Testimony

"While viewing jupiter at 00:55 est, jan 1, 1979, which was in the constellation of cancer at that time, very bright, on a clear night. the disc entered our atmosphere just to the lower right of the constellation of leo. the disk appeared as a dull orange glow, but also with what appeared to be a silver or whitish glow preceding it as if it were a force field of some sort. it moved rapidly to the nnw with no change in speed or direction, and in about three to four seconds, it went out of view approx. 25 degrees above the northern horizon, directly between polaris and the star schedar. i immediately documented all of this information on my star chart to be used in my lectures in my celestial navigation class. to my surprise, the fort lauderdale news for tuesday jan 2, 1979, page 9a, carried a story with photos showing a photo similar to what i saw. the sun-sentinel,for the same date showed other pics, and there was also a report of sightings in israel on their new years day. a rough trace on my star charts showed that the object i observed, if it continued on it's same flight path would have placed it over the near east where it was sighted. my star charts and newspaper clippings are available to anyone interested.
