Witness Testimony

"Was leaving oilfield work location and traveling north on 349 towards midland texas. out my drivers side window i noticed a glowing orange line that was as bright as a passing airplane. at first i thought it was some light projected from the ground up unto the cloud, but there was a thin mist throughout the sky in the area and a spotlight type of light would display its beam from the ground to the clouds. we have gas flare stacks throughout the area that will burn very bright, but again if they were projecting this much light it would have turned the entire bottom of the cloud orange also. at times it appeared as if it was actually a reflection of one of these flares onto something inside the cloud. like a mirrored surface. it did not move and it did not change shape. it stayed a straight vertical line while i traveled over eighteen miles to reach midland. if it was a light cast onto a cloud it would have changed shape due to the cloud changing shape and the angle of my view over the eighteen miles i observed it. i am prior combat vet and prior law enforcement and i do not have an explanation for the light and have not seen similar.
