"This happened many years ago (about 20) when i was a little girl. ever since i was fascinated by it, but it seems like i was the only one. i was about 10 years old and i saw from our apartment window a hovering object. it gave the optical illusion that it was above the the tree in front of the house but it was clear to see that it was much farther away in the sky. i was able to see it pretty clear so it means it was quite big. i think at least the size of a helicopter. it was a saucer shape (yes, i know, unoriginal), but far from being flat, it had a significant thickness. i don't remember other characteristics. i called my dad and asked him what he thinks that is. he looked but told me that he doesn't know. it was evening but there was plenty of light, meaning it was summer. this object just stayed in the air without moving for approximately an hour. then, when it was starting to get dark, it started to fly upwards with a slight angle. it glided up smoothly, until it finally disappeared from sight in the sky (no clouds). recently my husband proposed that it might be a military hot air balloon. he said they look very different from the air balloons we're used to, but there are no pictures of them anywhere found because the military doesn't exactly publish that information. what do you think? is it possible? could you think of another logical explanation to what i saw?"
