Witness Testimony

"Orange lights suspended in the skyI was at my father-in-laws house talking with his neighbor’s wife and her son in the yard shortly after dusk. As she was talking to me I noticed a bright orange-ish light in the sky to the east. My initial thought was that it was the planet Mars as it has a similar color to it when observed through a telescope. As I was thinking to myself, Wow, Mars is really bright tonight”, the object disappeared. I interrupted the neighbor as she was talking saying “What the hell was that?” The conversation stopped as the three of us looked in the direction the light had been in. Seconds later, two similar bright orange lights appeared in the distance simultaniously. They were fairly far apart and did not appear to be a single object. As we all collectively started guessing what they could be one of the items did what appeared to be a J-hook and then both of them simultaneously disappeared. My initial thought was that they may have been flares but other than the horizontal J-hook by one of them, they both appeared to be sitting perfectly still, unlike a flare that would be either rising from it being shot or sailing downward on its parachute.
