SIGHTING: SALEM, OREGON (UNITED STATES)

Witness Testimony

"I was getting ready for bed when i heard unusually loud helicopter flying by my home. i went outside to observe. from my back deck, i continued to hear the loud sound of what i assumed was a low flying helicopter and observed lights that i assumed were from the helicopter. i then saw 2 lights in front of the helicopter. the 2 lights appeared to be about 75 feet in front of the helicopter and maybe slightly lower than the helicopter. the 2 lights were separated from each other by a distance equal to or slightly greater than the size of the helicopter. the 2 lights were steady, unblinking and slightly smaller than the helicopter lights. the two lights did not appear at all like the helicopter lights. the helicopter and 2 lights were traveling south to north. they were not directly over head but at approximately 30 degrees above the horizon. the distance was approximately 1/4 mile. the incident happened while dark and on a clear night. because the observation time was so brief (maybe 15 seconds) and the lights so low, i was not able to determine if the two lights were connected to each other or if they were independent of each other. i lost of of the lights due to trees and neighborhood homes. it is not unusual that a helicopter would fly near my home. what was unusual was the low altitude and the noise. the altitude was very low and the helicopter sound was very loud. i suspect it was a very large helicopter. and of course, it was very strange to see two unidentifiable lights moving in front of the helicopter. i did not have any unusual or altered feelings during or after the sighting.
